If you have read Pushkin before you're in familiar territory and if you haven't well there is no loss there as you may find yourself wanting to read more Pushkin. Spoiler alert (if you've not watched the film either) there is no happy ending. It may not suit everyone's tastes, keep in mind this style of writing poetry doesn't exist any more and if you're not used to it you may feel like you're getting lost somewhere along the way, however, if you do feel like you're off the path Pushkin will set you right.
